Minister of Energy and Green Transition Hon John Abdulai Jinapor has stressed the need for Africa to position itself with a well thought out framework in its quest to spearhead the green transition agenda aimed at harnessing the continent’s rich natural resources.
Speaking at the 7th Meeting of the African Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO) National Oil Companies (NOCs) CEOs Forum held in Accra, Mr Jinapor urged participants to use the platform brainstorm and find lasting solution to Africa’s energy challenges while tapping into experiences of other African countries.
He underscored the importance for the eighteen participating National Oil Companies (NOCs) to use the forum to unearth Africa’s unique hydrocarbon potential as the continent transitions from fossil-based fuel to renewables.
Mr Jinapor urged the CEOs to emulate Ghana’s stringent oil and gas laws and regulations which has resulted massive transformation of the sector.
“This forum must be a platform where innovative and pragmatic ideas should emanate from”. He reiterated, adding, “the world speaks of an energy transition; but for Africa, we must insist that it must be a just transition.
APPO has over the years, provided a unique framework for collaboration among our national oil companies, ensuring that Africa’s voice and priorities are amplified on the global energy stage.
The Minister emphasized that Africa’s energy transition must be fair, equitable, and reflective of the continent’s unique circumstances and prioritise initiatives that ensure universal energy access for all citizens.
The African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) (formerly called the African Petroleum Producers’ Association, APPA) was established on January 27, 1987 as a platform for cooperation and harmonization of efforts, collaboration, sharing of knowledge and expertise among African oil producing countries.
