President John Dramani Mahama has put forward Soyelleh Cecilia as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region.
Her nomination was revealed in an official statement from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Thursday, October 24, 2025. This is in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.
The statement, which was signed by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, indicated that the President’s decision was conveyed through a letter (Ref. No. OPS.102/25/3571) from the Office of the President.
Madam Soyelleh Cecilia’s appointment must be approved by the Lawra Municipal Assembly, as mandated by law.
If she is confirmed, she will be responsible for coordinating government policies and development initiatives in the municipality, collaborating closely with the Regional Coordinating Council and local stakeholders to promote progress in the area.
The Lawra nomination is part of a series of local government appointments being made under the Mahama administration to enhance decentralisation and improve service delivery at both district and municipal levels.
