About
The New Republic is one of Ghana’s most respected and credible newspapers, with a pedigree built on fearless investigative journalism and an unwavering commitment to the public interest.
Our History
The New Republic was established in 2007 as The Republic newspaper, in partnership with investigative journalist David Tamakloe. It began publishing in 2009 and operated under the stewardship of DST Global Consult Ltd. Between 2012 and 2017, The Republic dominated newsstands across Ghana as a daily newspaper, earning a reputation for its centre-left editorial stance and hard-hitting reporting.
Following financial challenges, the paper suspended publication, before being revived in 2023. It was subsequently taken over by Hi Flo Media Company Limited, which rebranded it as The New Republic. Hi Flo Media also publishes Whatsup News, a well-known digital newspaper in the Ghanaian media landscape.
Our Journalism
The New Republic publishes political, social, business, financial, cultural and general news, and is best known for its investigative exposés on corruption and the abuse of public office. Our reporting is guided by a simple principle: to hold power to account and to inform the public without fear or favour.
Our Leadership
David Tamakloe, the paper’s owner, publisher and Chief Editor, is an experienced journalist and anti-corruption campaigner who has contributed to award-winning publications including The Free Press, The New Republic, and Africa Confidential. He is the current President of the Private Newspapers and Online Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG).
Our Standing
The New Republic is duly registered with the National Media Foundation and is a member of PRINPAG. The paper is sold in physical copies on newsstands across the country every Tuesday and Thursday, and by subscription. It also maintains a large and growing social media following.
Looking Ahead
The New Republic is currently developing a multi-media platform and an enhanced digital presence to serve our readers wherever they are — delivering credible, independent journalism in print, online, and beyond.
