The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) police have swiftly nabbed the man seen in viral video flogging his victim believed to be his wife.
John Odartey Lamptey, was arrested at his family residence on Monday November 17, at Ofankor, a suburb of Accra.
In the video, Odartey Lamptey was captured flogging his wife while she sat on the bare floor almost naked begging him to stop. According to a tenant who is suspected to have made the recording, it was the first time the suspect was domestically abusing her.

While the tenants looked on helplessly without being able to rescue her, Odartey Lamptey was seen shutting the main gate to prevent passersby from coming in to intervene.
The offensive video clip allegedly recorded by a tenant and leaked on the internet yesterday, Monday November 17, sparking outright uproar and condemnation from the public.
The suspect’s siblings Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, have also been arrested for attempting to attack the female tenant suspected to have recorded and leaked the video.
Additionally, the tenant in question has also been rescued by the Police and sent to a safe place.
A statement from the Police on Tuesday November 18, said at the time the police arrived to cause the arrest, his wife had fled the house to an unknown destination.

It said efforts are being made to locate and ensure safety of the wife.
Signed by the Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo Public Relations Officer, the Police assured that “The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetuators face the full rigour of the law”.
