The talented musician died today, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Emena Hospital in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region. He had been in that facility receiving medical treatment until his passing today.
His manager, Nana Poku Ashis, confirmed the news, bringing an end to years of public concern over the musician’s health.
Yaw Sarpong had battled ill health for some time and had occasionally withdrawn from performances to focus on recovery.
Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of contemporary Ghanaian gospel music, Yaw Sarpong rose to national prominence as the leader of the renowned Asomafo Gospel Band.
