A cross-section of chiefs and indigenes of the Dzodze Traditional Area have reaffirmed their recognition of Torgbiga Dzoku V as the legitimate Paramount Chief, insisting that he remains the duly installed and gazetted occupant of the Dzodze stool, despite a purported revocation of his gazette by the Volta regional House of Chiefs.

At a press briefing held in Dzodze on Sunday, February 22, 2026, elders drawn from various clans within the traditional area dismissed reports suggesting that his authority had been revoked or invalidated.
They described such claims as “misleading and divisive,” urging the public to disregard what they termed as attempts to create confusion within the traditional setup.

Speaking on behalf of the chiefs, Torgbi Akpadi VI, a divisional chief of the area, stated that Torgbiga Dzoku V was lawfully enstooled in accordance with the customs and traditions of Dzodze and subsequently gazetted by the appropriate state authorities.
“There has been no lawful destoolment, nor has any competent body nullified his recognition as Paramount Chief. Torgbiga Dzoku V remains the undisputed overlord of Dzodze,” he declared.

The chiefs emphasized that matters relating to chieftaincy are governed by both customary law and statutory provisions under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, stressing that any attempt to undermine the authority of a gazetted chief without due process would be contrary to established legal and traditional procedures.
Several indigenes who attended the briefing also expressed concern over what they described as sustained campaigns aimed at destabilizing the traditional area, while appealing for unity and calm.
“Dzodze has always been known for peace and development. We should not allow misunderstandings to divide us, they stated.
Our Paramount Chief is still on the throne, and we stand by him,” the distraught indegines added.
The Dzodze indigenes and residents further called on the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs to ensure that due process is respected in the handling of any petitions or disputes relating to the stool, reiterating their commitment to peace and development, noting that the Paramount Chief has played a key role in championing education, youth empowerment, and infrastructural advocacy within the area.

Meanwhile, sources close to the palace indicated that Torgbiga Dzoku V remains focused on his traditional duties and has refrained from engaging publicly in the controversy.
Observers say the latest show of support from chiefs and indigenes is likely to deepen discussions around the ongoing chieftaincy dispute but may also help stabilize tensions in the Dzodze Traditional Area.
For now, supporters maintain that until any lawful determination states otherwise, Torgbiga Dzoku V continues to occupy the Dzodze Paramount Stool, shutting down the Volta regional House of Chief’s purported revocation.
