The Dzodze Ghana Mission Hospital has cut the sod to officially commence the construction of a new Out-Patient Department (OPD) and Emergency Block.
The event held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the hospital premises, marked a significant milestone in the hospital’s continuous effort to improve healthcare delivery to the people of Dzodze and surrounding communities.
Delivering a welcome address at the brief ceremony, administrator of the hospital Mr. Mac Thompson Gbeti said the purpose of the gathering was to cut sod for construction of an OPD/Emergency Block valued at GH¢350,000 being financed by a philanthropist, Mr. Seth Dzamesi. Takpa.
Background of Dzodze Ghana Mission Hospital.
Dzodze Ghana Mission Hospital (DGMH) is a faith-based healthcare facility located at Kave in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region of Ghana. The hospital operates under the auspices of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) and was established in 2016 by the Dzodze Ablorme Church of Christ. Since its establishment, the facility has experienced remarkable growth, expanding from a small clinic into a fully operational primary Hospital that currently serves thousands of patients within the Ketu North Municipality, Dzodze, and neighboring communities and beyond.
Services Provided by the hospital
Dzodze Ghana Mission Hospital provides a wide range of health and community services, including 24-Hour Service, Out-Patient and In-Patient Care, Laboratory Services, Antenatal, Delivery, and Postnatal Care. Others include, Dentistry Services, Orthopedic & Trauma Services, Theatre (Surgical) Services, Pharmaceutical Care Services, X-ray & Ultrasonography, ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) Services, Family Planning and Counseling Services, Mental Health Services, Public Health Services, Child Welfare Services, Preventive Health Screenings, Immunization Programs, Health Education and Promotion, Community Health Assessments, Community Outreach and Engagement, Emergency Preparedness and Response.

According to Mac Thompson Gbeti, the hospital recently commissioned a modern Orthopedic Block with the capacity to admit over twenty (20) patients.
He said the facility is privileged to have one of the best Orthopedic Surgeons working alongside other qualified clinical staff. Despite this progress, Gbeti lamented that the hospital currently does not have a functional X-ray machine. A situation which he said poses serious challenges to effective healthcare delivery. “Orthopaedic and trauma patients are often required to travel over 100 kilometers to access X-ray services before returning to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
He added: “This leads to delays in diagnosis, Increased financial burden on patients, Worsening of medical conditions in some cases requiring the urgent need for the OPD/Emergency Block.”
The hospital administrator noted that the hospital has also been facing significant infrastructure challenges. “Due to limited space and facilities, some medical cases that could be handled at the hospital are referred to other facilities. Additionally, the limited bed capacity has resulted in situations where pregnant women who attend antenatal care at the hospital are referred elsewhere for delivery because they are all sharing the same block, which is not enough for them.
The construction of the new OPD/Emergency Block generously being financed by Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa, Gbeti said is intended to address these challenges and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide timely and quality healthcare services.

The colorful sod-cutting ceremony was attended by several dignitaries and community leaders, including staff of Dzodze Ghana mission Hospital, chiefs, and community members from Kave, Awlikopeve, Kasu Dalikope, and Kpelikope who were all present to witness the historic event.

Addressing the gathering, a senior brother of the Chief Financier for the project, Mr. Governor Dzamesi Takpa, who represented Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa, explained that he and his brother share the same parents and maintain a strong family bond. He stated that he currently resides in Dzodze and has personally visited the hospital on several occasions for treatment, sometimes accompanied by members of his family.
Through these experiences, he has observed the excellent medical services and surgeries performed at the facility, which have reduced referrals to bigger hospitals in Accra and Ho. According to him, the quality of work being done at the hospital deeply touched their hearts and convinced them that supporting the hospital was a worthy cause for the development of the town. He emphasized that, “The first priority of mankind is health– When you have good health, you can do everything. But when you do not have good health, you cannot do anything,” he said , while conveying a message from Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa, stating that the decision to finance the project was motivated by the challenges faced by the hospital.
He assured the gathering that they are committed to ensuring the successful completion of the OPD/Emergency Block
He further noted that helping others in need aligns with biblical teachings, reminding the audience that the Bible encourages people to do good to their neighbours. Supporting the hospital, therefore, is part of their commitment to helping humanity receive proper healthcare.
The financier’s brother concluded by assuring the hospital of their readiness to continue providing any necessary support to complete the project.

Director of the Dzodze Ghana Mission Hospital, Preacher John Morkli expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Governor Dzamesi Takpa and his brother Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa for their generosity and commitment to the development of the hospital. He explained that many people often assume that hospitals generate sufficient income from patients. However, the reality is quite different. However, the Director emphasized that a town without a health facility is in serious trouble. He noted that it is impossible for a single individual or organization to finance and sustain a hospital alone. “Even the Government of Ghana recognizes this, which is why it collaborates with other organizations and development partners in healthcare delivery,” he observed.
He therefore appealed to Government institutions, NGOs, Philanthropic Associations and groups, as well as Individuals to support the hospital in any way possible for the benefit of Dzodze and the surrounding communities.
The Director also took the opportunity to commend the hospital staff, especially the clinical team, for their dedication and hard work. He encouraged them to continue treating all patients with respect, empathy, and fairness, reminding them that appearances can be deceptive. He advised that patients should never be judged by their clothing or appearance, “as someone who appears poor today could become a great supporter tomorrow.”
He concluded by once again thanking Mr. Governor Dzamesi Takpa and Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa for their remarkable support and prayed that God would richly bless and replenish them for their generosity, and as Oliver twist “we still ask for more.”
The ceremony also featured goodwill messages from community leaders. Speech by Togbui Dali III (Chief of Dalikope)Togbui Dali III expressed heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Governor Dzamesi Takpa and Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa for their generous support for the project. He noted that people with such generosity are becoming rare in society today, as many individuals who have the means often hesitate to support community development. He commended the brothers for recognizing the importance of healthcare and human life, and for demonstrating their love for the community through this project. He also prayed that God would bless them abundantly, strengthen them, and replenish their resources a thousand fold “so they could continue to support similar good causes.
The chief also emphasized the importance of treating every patient with dignity and respect, reminding healthcare workers that one should never judge people based on appearance. He revealed that Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa himself is a very humble and simple person, often seen wearing simple clothing, yet he is the one financing such a significant project. He further shared that he personally receives treatment at the hospital and that his wife also delivered at the facility, a testament to the good work and human face attached to healthcare at the Dzodze Ghana Mission Hospital.

The traditional leader encouraged members of the community to support the hospital in any possible way, while calling on Land owners around the enclave to consider donating land to facilitate the future expansion of the hospital.
Mr. Seth Agbodo also addressed the gathering describing the gesture by Mr. Governor Dzamesi Takpa and Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa as a challenge and inspiration to others. He encouraged Government institutions, NGOs, Philanthropists and Community members to emulate the example set by the Takpa brothers, by supporting healthcare development in the community.
The sod-cutting ceremony was a memorable and historic event, symbolizing the commitment of both the hospital and the community to improving healthcare services in Dzodze and beyond. The management of Dzodze Ghana Mission Hospital once again expressed profound appreciation to Mr. Seth Dzamesi Takpa (Chief Financier) and Mr. Governor Dzamesi Takpa (Representative) for their generous support. The hospital further appealed to the government, organizations, philanthropists, and the general public for continued support toward the completion of additional infrastructure blocks, the procurement of critical medical equipment, including an X-ray machine, incubators, firefly phototherapy and the overall growth and development of the hospital in order to enhance healthcare delivery within Dzodze and its surrounding communities.
The second part of the ceremony was the official sod cutting, symbolizing the commencement of the construction of the OPD/Emergency Block. The sod cutting was jointly performed by the following dignitaries: Togbui Dali III, Preacher John Morkli, Director of the Facility, Mr. Governor Dzamesi Takpa, Representative of the Chief Financier, Representative of Togbui Akpoto, Representative of Togbui Kpeli and Representative of Togbui Awli.
This symbolic act officially marked the beginning of the construction project.
The Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the program, who also serves as the Secretary and Human Resource Manager (HRM) of Dzodze Ghana Mission Hospital, Mr. Relatus Bubune Agbodo encouraged members of the community to support the hospital and its workers in various ways. He suggested that community members who are farmers could share some of their farm produce with the hospital workers, since the staff are committed to providing healthcare services for the benefit of the community. He mentioned that items such as maize, plantain, banana, cassava, and other farm produce could be shared as a form of community support and appreciation for the services rendered by the hospital staff.

Residents who attended the ceremony expressed optimism that the new facility would help address some of the long-standing challenges faced by patients seeking medical care in the area.
The Ghana Mission Hospital Dzodze has long served as a major facility for several communities in the municipality, providing maternal care, emergency services, and general medical treatment.
Construction of the OPD and Emergency Block is expected to begin immediately, with hospital authorities expressing hope that the project will be completed within the stipulated timeframe to begin serving the growing healthcare needs of the community.
