Dr. Kwamiga-Atokple hails unit’s legacy of patriotism and sacrifice
The 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces today marked 60 years of dedicated service to the nation, with a grand anniversary celebration in Ho that drew military officers, veterans, traditional leaders and dignitaries, including Dr Gabriel Kwamiga-Atokple, Statesman and Volta region’s member of the Council of State.
The event, held on the theme “Six Decades of Dedicated Service,” celebrated the regiment’s enduring contribution to national security, peacekeeping and public service since its establishment six decades ago.

In a keynote address, Dr Kwamiga-Atokple paid glowing tribute to the regiment for what he described as its “remarkable history of discipline, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to Ghana.”
“For sixty years, the 66 Artillery Regiment has remained a symbol of courage, loyalty and patriotism. Your steadfast service has helped preserve the peace and stability that our nation continues to enjoy,” he said.
He commended both retired and serving personnel for their sacrifices, noting that the regiment had played a critical role not only in defending the country’s territorial integrity but also in supporting peacekeeping efforts and emergency operations.

Dr Kwamiga-Atokple further urged the officers and men of the regiment to remain focused on professionalism and excellence.
“As you celebrate this significant milestone, let it also serve as a reminder of the enormous responsibility that rests on your shoulders to continue serving Ghana with honour and distinction,” he stated.

The Commanding Officer of the regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Jalali Din Ibrahim addressing the gathering, said the anniversary was a moment of reflection on the unit’s rich heritage and achievements over the past 60 years.
“This celebration is both a tribute to those who laid the foundation of this regiment and a recommitment to the values of discipline, loyalty and dedicated service,” he said.
He recounted the regiment’s role in key national security assignments, peace support operations and civil-military interventions, describing its journey as one marked by resilience and excellence.

The colourful ceremony featured a military parade, inspection of a guard of honour, cultural performances and the presentation of awards to deserving officers, soldiers and veterans who had distinguished themselves in service.
Retired officers who attended the event reflected on the regiment’s legacy, praising its contribution to the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation at large.
The celebration also attracted a large crowd of residents of Ho and surrounding communities, many of whom lauded the regiment’s longstanding presence and service in the Volta Region.

As the 66 Artillery Regiment turns 60, the anniversary served not only as a celebration of past accomplishments but also as a renewed pledge to continue safeguarding the peace and security of the nation.
