The minority leader, Alex Afenyo-Markin, has called out some judges he thinks are doing the bidding of the current John Mahama government.
According to the Effutu constituency Member of Parliament (MP), these unnamed judges are acting under the instructions of government and not the law.
He posited that they are writing their own record and posterity will deal with them as to how they discharged their responsibility whether good or bad.
In a social media post on Friday, 17 April captioned “To all honourable judges of our courts” the law maker implored the judges to desist from this new way of adjudicating cases and apply their “legal bran”, “common sense” and abide by the judicial oath.
Afenyo-Markin, who is also a lawyer, reminded them to be guided by Article 296. He predicted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not continue to stay in power after 2028 and urged them to stay away from party politics and leave it for politicians.
Meanwhile, his concern and warning has not been taken lightly by others on the internet. For instance, investigative journalist, Manasseh Awuni Azure has wondered why the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has not called out the MP and their member. In a post on Facebook Azure posted.
“If an NDC MP had said what Afenyo-Markin said, the GBA would have issued a statement about threats against threats against judges and Kominini”.
