A high-powered delegation from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace to share a bold vision for expanding specialized healthcare in Ghana.
Led by the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the team briefed the monarch on the significant strides the Trust Fund has made since its inception. The core message was clear: to ensure that no Ghanaian is denied life-saving, specialized treatment for chronic non-communicable diseases simply because they cannot afford it.
The delegation—which included Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, GMTF Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, GHS CEO Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoryea, and CHAG Executive Director Dr. Peter Kwame Yeboah—highlighted ongoing reforms designed to ease the heavy financial burden of specialized care on families.
Beyond providing an update, the visit was a strategic move to enlist the Asantehene’s immense influence. The Trust Fund recognizes that traditional leaders are vital in driving grassroots awareness, ensuring that ordinary Ghanaians know about and can access the initiative.
