BUT GOD…
By Bobby Quarqoo
They wrote the story as though it was finished. They stamped papers, passed resolutions, sent telegrams in the shadows of history, and told the world that everything had been settled. They said a people had been folded into another destiny. They said a voice had been silenced, a land absorbed, a question closed. They used power. They used force. They used fear. And for a time, it looked like they were right.
Voices were drowned out by decrees. Truth was buried under intimidation. Those who dared to stand were branded, hunted, imprisoned, and broken in body—but not in spirit. Some were silenced in cells. Others were scattered. Many grew weary.
Hope seemed fragile
Division crept in. Distrust took root. Some leaders were swayed. Some guardians of tradition turned away. Some brothers and sisters stood on opposite sides of the same dream. And the world watched… or did not watch at all.
BUT GOD…
When history is manipulated, God is not confused. When justice is delayed, God is not absent. When truth is buried, God is not defeated. For every act of intimidation—BUT GOD plants courage.
For every prison door closed—BUT GOD opens hearts and minds. For every voice silenced—BUT GOD raises a thousand more.
They may threaten with laws written in darker times, BUT GOD writes justice on the conscience of humanity. They may try to divide the people, BUT GOD unites purpose beyond tribe, title, or faction. They may buy loyalty with handouts, BUT GOD awakens integrity that cannot be purchased. They may twist history, BUT GOD preserves truth in the hearts of those who refuse to forget. They may detain the body, BUT GOD sets the spirit free—and a free spirit cannot be conquered.
Even now, in prison cells where hope is tested…
Even now, in homes where fear whispers…
Even now, in meetings where disagreements rise… BUT GOD… is at work. Not in violence. Not in hatred. Not in revenge. But in something far stronger: Conviction.Truth. Peaceful courage. Unyielding faith.
Because the greatest transformations in history were not won by becoming what oppressed them—but by rising above it. This is not just a political cause. It is a test of conscience. A call to dignity. A moment where a people must decide: Will fear define the future… or will faith?
BUT GOD calls for a higher path. A path where: Anger becomes disciplined purpose Division becomes unity of vision, Suffering becomes testimony, And struggle becomes a peaceful, unstoppable force for justice. Let no one say, “It is impossible.” Because history is full of moments where everything said “No”…BUT GOD said “Wait.”
And in the waiting, hearts changed. Systems shifted. Truth prevailed.
So let the oppressor see something they do not expect:
Not violence—but resolve. Not chaos—but clarity.
Not hatred—but unwavering, peaceful determination.
Let the world see a people who refuse to disappear—not by force, but by faith in action. Organize. Speak truth. Stand peacefully. Support one another. Refuse to be divided.
Refuse to be silenced.
Because when a people stand together in truth and peace…
No prison is strong enough. No intimidation is powerful enough. No falsehood is lasting enough. They may write decrees… BUT GOD writes destiny. They may try to end the story… BUT GOD is still writing it…the story of British/Western Togoland.
