Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang arrived in Wa today, Thursday, April 24, 2026, to commence a high-level working visit to the Upper West Region, headlined by her participation in the celebrated Sankana Community Festival tomorrow.
The Vice President and her delegation were accorded a rousing reception at the Wa Airport by a distinguished contingent led by the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, Upper West Regional Minister Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., and key members of the Regional Coordinating Council.

Underscoring the NDC administration’s reverence for traditional authority, the Vice President’s first engagement was a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Wala Traditional Area, Wa Naa Alhaji Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo VI, at his palace.
“We first moved to the Palace of the Wa Naa, Alhaji Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo VI, to pay our respects and inform him of our presence in his region,” the Vice President remarked, reaffirming government’s commitment to deepening collaboration with traditional leaders.

The revered chiefs and elders of the Wala Paramountcy warmly embraced the Vice President’s entourage, taking the opportunity to table pressing developmental requests before her. They also conveyed profound appreciation to the government for the commencement of critical road infrastructure works in the municipality.
In her response, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed gratitude for the gracious reception and the traditional council’s recognition of ongoing projects. “I thank the Wa Naa for the warm reception and assure you that your requests have been duly noted,” she stated. “We are equally grateful that you acknowledge the works already being carried out. I urge you to continue supporting the government as we strive to achieve our collective aspirations for Ghana.”

The Vice President emphasized that the administration remains resolute in its agenda to bridge developmental gaps across the country, noting that “transformative progress is only possible when government and traditional authority move in unison.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s itinerary in the Upper West Region includes stakeholder consultations, project inspections, and her participation as Special Guest of Honour at the Sankana Community Festival on Friday, a cultural showcase expected to draw patrons from across the region.
Her visit signals the government’s renewed focus on inclusive governance, cultural preservation, and accelerated infrastructure delivery in the northern belt.
