The 2024 New Patriotic Party running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has asserted that the true essence of leadership is measured not by personal aggrandizement, but by the extent to which it uplifts the lives of the citizenry.
In a reflective statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, declared: “reflecting on my years in public service, and more recently outside of office, one truth continues to stand out: leadership must inure to the people we serve.”
Recounting his recent engagements with aspiring leaders, peers, and his participation in the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program at Harvard University, he emphasized the imperative for a paradigm shift in governance.
“I have emphasised that it cannot be business as usual. The responsibility of leadership demands more. Our actions carry real consequences. Every promise made inspires hope, and with it comes a clear expectation of delivery, because these decisions directly shape the lives and futures of our people,” he stated.
Dr. Prempeh underscored that rhetoric alone is insufficient, insisting that authentic leadership is validated through execution.
“The true test of leadership is not in what is promised, but in what is executed: how policies and programmes move from intention to impact,” he affirmed.
The former Education and Energy Minister further disclosed that over the coming month, he will utilize his social media platform to disseminate insights drawn from his experience and introspection on leadership, service, and execution.
His remarks come amid growing national discourse on accountability, delivery, and the transformative role of leadership in Ghana’s development trajectory.
