Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu has assured the region’s workforce of government’s commitment to improving livelihoods by expanding job opportunities, boosting productivity, and supporting businesses across the Volta Region through the 24-hour economy initiative.
Gunu was addressing hardworking men and women across the Volta Region at the 2026 May Day celebration held at the Jubilee Park, Ho, to honour the dedication and resilience of the region’s labour force.
The celebration, held by Organized Labour in the Volta and Oti Regions under the theme “Pivoting to Growth, Jobs and Sustainable Livelihoods Beyond Macroeconomic Stability,” brought together workers, labour leaders, traditional authorities, and key stakeholders in a show of unity and solidarity.

In his address, the Regional Minster expressed profound appreciation to all workers—farmers, traders, teachers, health professionals, artisans, and public servants whose efforts continue to drive the growth and development of the region. He emphasized the need for a skilled, disciplined, and forward-looking workforce, especially in a rapidly changing global economy.
He also highlighted the importance of skills development, particularly for the youth, as a key driver of sustainable development.

James Gunu was joined by his Oti regional counterpart, John Kwadwo Gyapong, who encouraged workers to remain resilient, innovative, and committed to productivity, while calling for stronger collaboration to accelerate development in the two regions.
The Regional Secretary of the Trades Union Congress, Sis. Edith Abla Amenuvor Afewu, also delivered a message on behalf of Organized Labour, highlighting the need to address issues of job security, fair wages, and improved working conditions, while advocating for inclusive growth that benefits all workers.

The event featured a colourful march through the streets of Ho, solidarity songs, and the presentation of awards to deserving workers and institutions.
“As we celebrate our workers today, let us remain united and committed to building a stronger Volta Region and a prosperous Ghana. The future of our region depends on the strength, dedication, and resilience of our people,” Gunu stated.
