The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a suspect accused of issuing death threats against security personnel and inciting violence in a widely circulated video on social media.
The suspect, identified as Opoku Emmanuel, was taken into custody on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region. The arrest was executed through a coordinated operation by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) in collaboration with officers from the Jacobu Police Command.
According to the Police, the suspect appeared in a masked video in which he allegedly threatened Police and Military personnel while warning officers against attempting to arrest armed robbers.
Police said the suspect further threatened to kill any officer who engaged him.
The video, which gained rapid traction online, elicited public alarm over direct threats targeting state security operatives and prompted an immediate investigation by the Police intelligence and cybercrime units.
In a statement, the Police confirmed that Opoku Emmanuel is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
Authorities indicate that the suspect is expected to be put before court in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Police have reiterated their commitment to dealing firmly with acts of violence, threats and incitement against security personnel and the public.
