The Member of Parliament for the Keta Constituency, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey has assured traders and residents that the Keta Central Market will soon undergo a major facelift aimed at improving trading conditions and boosting economic activities in the area.
According to the MP, the planned redevelopment project forms part of efforts to modernize market infrastructure within the constituency and create a safer and more conducive environment for traders, especially women who dominate commercial activities in the municipality.
Speaking during his “Accounting To The People” Series, the lawmaker acknowledged the numerous challenges facing the market, including poor drainage, inadequate sheds, congestion, and sanitation concerns.
He noted that consultations were ongoing with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the project, which would be done in phases, with GH¢ 9 million funding already secured for the phase 1.
Gakpey said the entire project, estimated to cost GH¢21 million, would include improved stalls, better sanitation facilities, enhanced drainage systems, and proper lighting.

Traders at the market welcomed the assurance and expressed optimism that the project would help improve business activities and attract more customers to the market.
Some residents also appealed for the speedy commencement of the project, stressing that the current state of the market required urgent attention.
The Keta Central Market remains one of the major trading hubs in the southern part of the Volta Region, serving traders and buyers from nearby communities and beyond.
If successfully completed, the project would not only beautify the market, but also improve trading and economic activities in the area.
