Majority Chief Whip Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor has emphatically repudiated assertions of governmental dysfunction, asserting that the current NDC administration under President John Dramani Mahama is neither beset by crisis nor riven by internal power struggles.
Appearing on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, June 6, the South Dayi lawmaker confronted mounting media narratives surrounding alleged “tussles” ahead of the NDC’s flagbearer contest. He declared unequivocally: “This government is not in crisis, there is no power play, there is no turf war.”
“Make the difficult decision” – Bentil urges Mahama on appointees with presidential ambitions
For his part, private legal practitioner Kofi Bentil urged President Mahama to demonstrate resolve by compelling appointees nursing presidential ambitions to relinquish their posts.
He argued that such officials would inevitably be distracted from governance, choosing instead to “build a bloc for themselves in the party to advance their interests.”
“Make the difficult decision, let some people step aside,” he stated on Key Points.
“… Everything you do is building a war chest so the work of real governance is secondary.”
In another rebuttal, Bentil dismissed National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s claim that the NDC’s 2023 parliamentary leadership reshuffle was crucial to the party’s 2024 electoral triumph.
Mr Asiedu Nketia, speaking during the NDC’s “Thank You Tour” in Tamale, had described the reshuffle as “a crucial factor in securing victory at the polls” and disclosed that he personally recommended Haruna Iddrisu and Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak for key ministerial portfolios after the NDC’s return to power in 2024.
Bentil, however, contended: “It is not true that the reshuffle he did was his political manoeuvring for his future. The outcome of that election had nothing to do with the reshuffling done.”
