The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has assured Ghanaians that power is gradually being restored to all parts of the country following a massive system disturbance that caused widespread outages in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), the National Interconnected Transmission System experienced a sudden disturbance at exactly 3:11 a.m. on July 29, 2026.
The fault caused several power generating plants to trip simultaneously, resulting in a nationwide blackout.
GRIDCo stated that its engineers and system operators immediately activated established emergency protocols to bring the grid back online.
Providing an update on the recovery efforts, the Ministry’s Head of Communications, Richmond Rockson Esq., confirmed that significant progress has been made.
“We have made progress with power restoration after the system disturbance, with supply already back in some affected areas. We will restore power to every affected customer soon,” he assured.
While restoration continues, GRIDCo has launched a comprehensive technical investigation to determine the exact root cause of the collapse.
The Ministry expressed its understanding of the inconvenience caused by the outage and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation.
