The Government of Ghana has paid GH¢10.82 billion to bondholders under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), bringing the total amount paid since 2025 to GH¢41.36 billion.
The payment, amounting to GH¢10,816,840,318.26, was made fully in cash and on schedule, according to a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The DDEP was introduced under the former Akufo-Addo administration as part of efforts to restructure Ghana’s domestic debt. The programme affected various categories of bondholders, including pensioners.
The Ministry of Finance said the latest payment marks the third DDEP coupon payment made fully in cash.According to the Ministry, the timely payment demonstrates the government’s fiscal discipline and commitment to meeting its debt obligations.
It added that the payment is expected to strengthen investor confidence, reduce the risk of sovereign default and reinforce Ghana’s financial credibility. The government has also assured bondholders, investors and the general public that future DDEP obligations will be paid in full and on schedule.
