Veteran gospel musician Bernice Offei had been quietly battling dementia for close to five years before her passing, her former manager Kwasi Ernest Ennin has disclosed.
Speaking in an interview on Max, Ennin revealed that the condition took a heavy toll on the legendary singer’s daily life and ultimately contributed to her death at the age of 63.
“For four to five years, she had been battling with dementia that affected her brain. When someone is sick of dementia, it affects the daily life of the person,” he said.
The Day She Went Missing
The former manager recounted a distressing incident in which the disease triggered an episode that left the musician unable to find her way home after stepping out.
“She left home, and the ailment was triggered, so she couldn’t locate her house,” he explained.
According to him, the family initially conducted the search quietly, but after their private efforts proved unsuccessful, they took the matter public — a move that eventually led to her being found.
“After the initial search by the family wasn’t yielding results, they made the search public and they later found her,” he added.
Her Final Days
Bernice Offei’s health continued to decline in the period that followed, and she passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 63.
Her death has drawn an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues in the gospel music industry, mourning the loss of one of the nation’s cherished voices.
