Two individuals have been arrested by the Police in Accra based on a tip-off provided by the Minister of Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu.
The arrests were initiated after two BECE candidates reported to the Minister that the suspects had deceived them into paying money for assistance with their senior high school placements.
After reviewing the evidence presented by the students, the Minister promptly alerted security agencies, leading to the apprehension of the suspects at the Resolution Centre.
This incident highlights the Ministry of Education’s dedication to safeguarding parents and students from fraudsters attempting to profit from the placement system.
The Ministry has reiterated that the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is a free service, and no parent or student should pay money to secure a school placement.
Consequently, the Ministry is urging parents, students, and the general public to remain vigilant and to report any suspected fraud, extortion, or attempts to manipulate the placement process to the relevant authorities.
These arrests serve as a strong warning that individuals found exploiting the anxiety of students and parents during this period will be identified and prosecuted according to the law.
