Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has launched a vigorous defense of the Mahama administration, vowing to expose what he terms the “shameless hypocrisy” of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the education sector.
In a fiery statement posted on Facebook, Dr. Apaak responded to recent criticisms from the opposition, declaring that he and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu intend to do more than simply refute the NPP’s narratives.
He promised that the Ministry would actively highlight the track record of the previous administration.
“The Honourable Minister for Education and I will not just counter the lies and propaganda of the NPP and our predecessors at MoE, we will expose their shameless hypocrisy,” Apaak wrote.
He dismissed the idea of the current government accepting guidance from its predecessors, arguing that the NPP is responsible for the very crises the new administration is trying to solve.
“We will not take guidance from the same people who created the crisis Ghanaians have mandated us to fix,” he asserted.
While acknowledging that significant challenges persist, Apaak emphasized that the current government is committed to boldly addressing the issues plaguing the sector, contrasting this approach with that of the previous government.
The escalating rhetoric follows a public disagreement between Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and his predecessor, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
Dr. Adutwum had extended an offer of assistance and guidance to his successor. However, Mr. Iddrisu rejected the offer, citing significant problems inherited from the previous regime, including infrastructure gaps, difficulties with the Free SHS feeding program, and the ongoing implementation of the double-track system.
