The Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) has shut down the Kumasi-based factory of popular herbal practitioner Doctor Caesar for operating with an expired license for the past three years.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, comes after the facility’s management ignored weeks of prior notices from the Council to rectify its licensing status.
Divine Ajiraku, a Regulatory Officer with the TMPC, explained that Doctor Caesar’s facility breached the Traditional Medicine Practice Act, 2000 (Act 575) by failing to renew its licence for three consecutive years.
He noted that the Council had previously visited the premises and provided ample time for management to regularize their documentation, but no action was taken.
“The failure to comply left the Council with no option but to shut down the facility,” Mr. Ajiraku stated.
He added that the TMPC will issue a formal letter directing the facility’s management to report to the Council’s office and complete the required renewal processes before they can be permitted to reopen.
No arrests were made during Tuesday’s exercise.
In a related development, the owner of the Asempa facility which was previously closed by the TMPC has been invited by the police for questioning.
This follows allegations that the owner vandalized the padlocks used by the Council to secure the premises and unlawfully reopened the facility for business.
These enforcement actions form part of the TMPC’s ongoing crackdown to curb the operations of unlicensed traditional medicine practitioners across the country.
