The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariatt (NAIMOS) this dawn, Saturday, November 8, conducted a swoop in the Eastern Region arresting 36 illegal miners. The arrested are several Nigeriens (32) and 4 Ghanaians. The exercise was conducted specifically at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District of the region. Pressure is mounting on authorities especially the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, to take decisive action following the death of a 16-year old boy, allegedly molestated by his coach. A team of officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) together with some journalists had it tough carrying out their mandate after they were attacked at an illegal mining site in the Ashanti Region. The incident occurred at Dadwene, a community near Obuase on Thursday November 6, 2025. The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has provided update of electoral violence recorded in the last two general elections—2020 and 2024. The sector Minister has confirmed that through investigation, some 21 suspects have been identified in connection with violence incidents during these elections, leaving 15 people dead and 40 others injured.
