A Chinese company operating in Ghana, Sunda International has donated cash, household consumables and T-shirts through the May 9 Foundation for families of victims of the Accra stadium disaster.  The donation coincides with the 18th anniversary of the tragic stampede which occurred during a soccer game between rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko on May 9, 2001. Herbert Mensah, former chairman of Asante Kotoko and founder of the May 9 Remembered annual charity events joined Muslims and chiefs to pray for the souls of the over 126 football fans who died during the Stadium stampede on May 9, 2001. The denomination to be affected are the 10, 20 and 50 cedi notes[/caption] The upgraded and security-enhanced banknotes of the Bank of Ghana would be made available to the public for use as a medium of exchange from today, May 6. The central bank had said in a statement issued in April that the upgraded banknotes will have enhanced security features in line with evolving changes in technological landscape.
