Fishermen at Sekondi in the Western Region believe the intent of the closed season for fishing could only be achieved if it covered trawler operators as well. From next year, private security companies would only be allowed to employ personnel who have undergone a standardised police training, the Ghana Police Service has announced. As part of the training, the onus would be on the Ghana Police Service to undertake background checks on personnel to ensure that they have no criminal records. Residents along the Ablekuma-Manhia road have charged government to show commitment and speed up construction of their roads or will hit the streets again.
