The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has stressed the need for effective petroleum regulation in sustaining national peace.
The Authority noted that that transparent and accountable management of the downstream petroleum sector is essential for economic stability and public confidence.
The Chief Executive of the NPA, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Esq., made the point in a speech read on his behalf by the Director of Business Development, Mr. Godwin Konu, at the Global Peace Leaders Summit held on October 14, 2026 in Accra.

The summit brought together representatives from government, traditional authorities, the diplomatic corps, security services, faith-based institutions, development partners, academia and the private sector to discuss peace, responsible leadership and sustainable development.
Speaking on the theme, “Petroleum Regulation, Energy Security and National Cohesion: Sustaining Peace through Efficient and Accountable Energy Governance,” Mr. Tameklo emphasised that the NPA’s mandate extends beyond licensing and monitoring petroleum companies to ensuring product quality, promoting fair competition, protecting consumers and maintaining a transparent regulatory environment.

He stressed that petroleum regulation has implications beyond the operations of industry players, affecting transportation, agriculture, commerce, manufacturing and household expenditure.
He noted that the way petroleum resources are managed can influence the economic well-being of citizens and the stability of society.
