IMANI Centre for Policy and Education has expressed some reservations over the number of ministries created by the new government and called for a merger of the new portfolios with the existing ministries to save cost. Flagbearer of the Peoples’ National Convention, Dr. Edward Nasigre Mahama, says he will accept a ministerial appointment from Nana Akufo-Addo if he is offered one. The Gambia’s President-elect, Adama Barrow, has left the country after talks failed to persuade President Yahya Jammeh to step down. Nigeria’s president flew to Banjul to try to broker a deal but Mr Jammeh would not relinquish power. Mr Barrow is now heading to Mali, where he will meet West African leaders attending a summit there. The former estate agent wants to resolve the transitional deadlock so he can be sworn in next week. The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, left Ghana on Friday, January 13, 2017 to attend the 27th France-Africa Summit, taking place in Bamako, Mali —his 1st foreign trip as President. Attendants at the Moree tollbooth in central region are appealing to the police to beef up security there to protect them and revenue collected at the booth. The appeal has become necessary, in the wake of the incessant attacks on some tollbooths and state establishments following a change of government.
