Unrest broke out between the Hema and Lendu communities in the north-eastern province of Ituri. A UN-sponsored broadcaster said the assailants were eventually forced back by security forces. More than 100 people have been killed by violence in the province since mid-December. Gunmen have launched attacks in the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, with the French embassy and a military HQ among the apparent targets. Burkina Faso’s government said security personnel had killed eight gunmen in what they said was a probable “terrorist” attack. Eight members of the security forces were also killed, officials said, with 80 people wounded, including civilians. Police said the attack had now come to an end. The Ghana Bar Association is the latest to add its voice to the many concerns raised about the recent spate of robberies in the country. Five year old Augustina Bonsu has been suffering from bilateral cataract, a condition that easily leads to blindness, since she was born. Augustina, who is currently in Kindergarten 2 at Adom Baptist Development Centre, has been performing below expectation academically due to her poor sight. Mobile money vendors in parts of Kumasi have not been spared in the recent broad daylight robbery attacks. At least four merchants have been attacked and robbed off their sales within the past one month. The robbers succeeded in bolting with over 10 thousand cedis from their victims.
