The Vice Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alhaji Sofo Azorka has been arrested by the Police Administration.
The onetime Northern Regional chairman of the party, was apparently arrested on Wednesday September 10 by the Eastern South Regional Police Command but was granted bail to appear in court next week.
It comes in the wake of an official complaint filed by the party following a live threats issued on the Minority Leader Alex Afenyo-Markin and NPP’s third Vice Chairman Alhaji Masawudu Osman, known in political circles as chairman Buga Buga.
The threats were issued at a polling station during the Akwatia by-election in the Eastern Region on September 2.
Azorka, was seen in the video verbally abusing the two on live TV after he got wind that the Effutu constituency MP for instance, had stormed the NDC’s constituency office area and tore posters of the candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, who later won the election to replace the late MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
While he unleashed the invectives and threat to kill in the absence of the law maker, he attacked Chairman Buga in his presence while he was granting interview and mentioned he Azorka’s name.
Even though Chairman Buga looked and sounded very friendly while speaking to the media, his colleague on the other side of the political divide, looked serious to the extent that some of his escort threw few punches at him.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 12, the police confirmed that Azorka was picked up in Tamale as part of ongoing investigations into the incident on Wednesday, September 10.
The statement added that a caution statement was taken from him, after which he was granted bail.
