Rival Camps Lock Horns In Explosive Accusations ahead of primary.
As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for its forthcoming presidential primary set for January 31, 2026, tension and controversy have reached a fever pitch within the party.
Leading contenders and opponents are now embroiled in a whirlwind of accusations and counter-accusations, each vying to tarnish the reputation of their rivals.
The camps of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Ken Agyapong have unleashed a barrage of allegations against each other, with claims ranging from murder and corruption to incompetence and sabotage.
Whispers of smear campaigns orchestrated by rival camps have sparked a social media firestorm, with sensational headlines such as “Ten Sins of Bryan Acheampong,” “Sixteen Evil Deeds of Bawumia,” and “Ten Sins of Kennedy Agyapong” dominating trending topics.
At the center of the storm is Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi constituency in the Eastern Region.
The Bawumia camp has accused him of orchestrating violent incidents during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, as well as inciting a revolt known as the ‘Ken Must Go’ movement within the parliament. Moreover, Bryan stands accused of various corrupt practices, including the hoarding of essential resources meant for constituents and involvement in questionable land acquisitions.
Allegations targeting Kennedy Agyapong include accusations of recruiting thugs during the 2008 elections, inciting conflict in certain communities, and making disparaging remarks about the NPP leadership and Ghana’s Parliament.
On the other front, critics of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia launch attacks questioning his economic management skills, dubbing him “Bawuliar” for perceived broken promises and economic missteps. Allegations of missing rice meant for donation, and tribal divisiveness have been leveled against the former Vice President.
The Bryan camp also accuses Dr. Bawumia of being untruthful, betraying party promises, and fostering internal discord within the NPP.
Lastly, the controversial figure of Ken Agyapong has not been spared from the accusatory exchanges. Accusations of inciting violence, verbal abuse, and unethical behavior have been hurled against the former Member of Parliament. His history of confrontational statements and provocative actions has drawn sharp criticism from within the NPP ranks.
With the NPP presidential primary drawing nearer, the battle of accusations and character assassinations shows no sign of abating. As the contenders vie for the party’s top position, the political landscape remains turbulent, with mudslinging and scandalous revelations dominating the discourse.
As for Bryan Acheampong, allegations range from involvement in election violence to corrupt land dealings and interference in government affairs.
The swirling accusations, albeit largely unverified and confined to partisan circles, have injected a sense of unease and discord into the primary race. Party elders fear that if left unchecked, this contentious atmosphere could fracture party unity and tarnish the NPP’s reputation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
With the primaries looming closer, the battleground is not just about policies and visions but also about undermining opponents through a battle of narratives, exposing the fervor and determination of each camp to emerge victorious.
The escalating tensions underscore the high stakes and cutthroat strategies at play in this pivotal contest, setting the stage for a clash of wills as aspirants and their supporters jockey for supremacy.
Concerned Ghanaians are now calling upon law enforcement agencies such as the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the police to investigate the swirling allegations.
Meanwhile, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is closely monitoring the situation, having capitalized on the internal strife of the NPP in the past as a potent campaign tool. The NDC is carefully observing the escalating accusations amongst the NPP contenders.
