A former United States New Patriotic Party (NPP) Public Relations Officer, who also doubles as a Ghanaian freelance journalist based in the US, Prince Osei Bonsu, has forecasted a crushing defeat for the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun elections.
The rerun elections, which are scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, have sparked various commentaries, with Prince Osei urging the leadership of the New Patriotic Party to accept the inevitable and concede defeat ahead of time.
According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not stand idly by and allow the NPP to reclaim the Ablekuma North seat under the current circumstances.
He declared, “If the NPP are listening, they are wasting their time. There is no money, and even the little amount the NPP has, if they invest it in the elections, they will still lose.”
Prince Osei cited the Kumawu by-election as a reference point, where, according to him, the NDC strategically backed out of the race upon assessing their chances of winning.
He implied that the NDC is more tactically prepared and would deploy similar strategies to ensure victory in Ablekuma North.
He reiterated his point strongly, saying, “This Ablekuma elections, whether we like it or not, even if we bring the Pope, the Chief Imam, or McKeown, we will still lose all the 19 constituencies. They will rig it.”
His statement pointed to an alleged plan by the NDC to manipulate the election outcome in their favor, suggesting the NPP stands no realistic chance of winning.
“Whatever the NDC will do to rig and win the elections, they will do,” Prince Osei alleged, further urging the leadership of the New Patriotic Party to engage their parliamentary candidate and advise her to concede and shift focus toward the 2028 general elections.
He stressed that the NPP currently has no compelling message to convince the electorate in Ablekuma North, describing their involvement in the upcoming rerun as a mere waste of time, energy, and scarce resources.
Highlighting the internal cracks and disunity within the leadership of the party, Prince Osei went a step further by calling on the NPP to officially notify the Electoral Commission of their decision to withdraw from the rerun election.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has confirmed that the rerun will be conducted in 19 out of the 37 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency on Friday, July 11, 2025.
