Ex-Buffer Stock CEO Lavish Lifestyle Under Scrutiny Amidst EOCO Probe.
A shocking scandal has rocked the National Buffer Stock Company, with its former CEO, Hanan Abdul-Wahab at the very centre.
Accused of amassing a staggering amount of wealth through dodgy dealings, he’s left a trail of furious, unpaid suppliers in his wake.
The New Republic (TNR) has learnt that while frustrated supply chain workers took to the streets demanding their rightful dues, Hannan Abdul-Wahab, now popularly referred in his home region as ‘UPPER EAST DANGOTE’ was busy lining his own pockets, a stark contrast to his humble beginnings.
Multiple sources and a preliminary investigation paint a stunning picture of a man whose fortunes took a dramatic U-turn after he took the top job at Buffer Stock in 2017.
Before his appointment, sources say Hannan couldn’t even afford a decent car. But fast-forward to 2024, and the same man is now the proud owner of a fleet of luxury vehicles, prime real estate in Accra, multiple mansions in Tamale, and even his own hotel
Whispers of secret properties overseas, particularly in South Africa, are also circulating. What’s more, many of these assets are held in the name of his wife, a woman with no known employment history.
Allegations from inside the company suggest Hannan abused his position to embezzle millions of cedis, using his wife and close associates as fronts for his illicit dealings. While he boasted of his innocence to his inner circle, sources confirm he was siphoning off vast sums of money for personal gain.
The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has now reportedly launched an aggressive legal effort to recover the ill-gotten gains and hold him accountable.
As the scandal deepens, Hanan Abdul-Wahab, instead of addressing the accusations, is reportedly boasting to friends that he will be freed.
According to those close to him, he’s “cosied up” to the eight-month-old Mahama government and hopes his influence within the new administration will shield him from the determined officers of EOCO.
Some of Hannan’s own friends, who have become aware of his sudden and shocking extravagance, have warned that if EOCO and the Attorney General’s Office fail to secure a conviction, it will only embolden other criminals to use politics as a path to riches, leaving the state vulnerable to such brazen crimes.
