Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has called for sustained and deliberate investment in healthcare, asserting that robust health systems are fundamental to driving economic growth and improving health outcomes across West and Central Africa.
He delivered the charge during the official launch of the Regional Health, Nutrition and Population Strategy for West and Central Africa in Accra, a landmark initiative developed by the World Bank in collaboration with Ghana’s Ministry of Health.
The strategy seeks to mobilize billions of dollars across more than 20 countries to fortify health systems, advance nutrition, and bolster preparedness for public health emergencies throughout the sub-region.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief of Staff emphasized that strengthening healthcare infrastructure transcends social obligation and stands as an economic imperative for nations pursuing long-term development.
“He made the remarks at the official launch of the Regional Health, Nutrition and Population Strategy for West and Central Africa in Accra, an initiative developed by the World Bank in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Health.”
“The Chief of Staff said strengthening healthcare systems is not only a social necessity but also an economic imperative for countries seeking long-term development.”
“He said in Ghana, this strategy aligns closely with the country’s national vision of achieving universal health coverage, strengthening health systems and ensuring that every citizen regardless of income or location can access quality healthcare.”

Also speaking at the event, Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh noted that Ghana’s selection as host underscores the nation’s tangible progress in strengthening its health sector.
He reiterated that attaining universal health coverage remains an urgent global imperative, demanding decisive investment in infrastructure, medical equipment, and the healthcare workforce.
“He noted that achieving universal health coverage remains a pressing global goal, stressing the need for countries to invest in infrastructure, medical equipment, and healthcare workers.”
“He said the strategy is expected to guide coordinated reforms and investments aimed at improving resilience and health outcomes across West and Central Africa.”
The Regional Health, Nutrition and Population Strategy is poised to serve as a blueprint for coordinated reforms and strategic investments, designed to enhance system resilience and elevate health outcomes across the sub-region.
