The Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called for striking doctors at Tamale Teaching Hospital to exercise restraints and resume work as government is working to resolve their challenges.
According to the minister, government and the ministry recognizes the logistical challenges confronting hospitals and heath workers in general nationwide and
reiterated the government’s dedication to providing quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
Akandoh, highlighted the importance of fairness, sustainability, and teamwork in the health sector.
At a ceremony in Accra, he donated 35 essential medical items to the Tamale Teaching Hospital to address its recent difficulties.
The donation included ICU ventilators, ECG machines, EEG and nebulizer sets, fetal heart detectors, cardiac monitors, anesthesia machines, and infant incubators.
The new CEO of the hospital accepted the items, accompanied by senior officials from the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry.
Akandoh recognized the tough conditions health workers have faced over the past eight years and promised his support under the government’s new agenda.
He called for better collaboration to enhance healthcare across the country. He emphasized the critical nature of the health sector and expressed his readiness to work with doctors, nurses, and other health professionals.
He encouraged health facility managers to utilize resources wisely to ensure that the underprivileged receive timely care.
The Minister, also asked the Tamale Teaching Hospital staff to end their strike, assuring them of his commitment to address their concerns.
He highlighted the need for sustainability and urged hospitals to use their own funds to maintain equipment rather than relying solely on government support.
