Greater Accra NDC Chairman Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore is reeling from a massive court defeat that has sent shockwaves through the party, with furious calls for his immediate resignation.
Party faithful, angry grassroots organizers, and some top-ranking members are demanding Moore step down after a High Court judge slammed him with a damning judgment, ordering him to hand over properties belonging to a wealthy Singaporean investor.
In a jaw-dropping ruling on September 4, Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu of the High Court, General Jurisdiction 10, gave the NDC firebrand a brutal 24-hour ultimatum: release all properties belonging to Singaporean tycoon Toh You Kang or face the music.
The judge also torpedoed criminal charges Moore had masterminded against the investor at the Dansoman Circuit Court, branding the entire proceeding as “unlawful.”
MILLIONS ON THE LINE
The scandal erupted after Toh, who claims he pumped a staggering $1.5 million into the NDC’s campaign, sensationally accused Moore of extortion and abuse of power.
The explosive allegations include claims that Moore pocketed huge sums for himself in connection with high-stakes Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) contracts.
Toh’s legal team, led by Cephas Boyuo of Boyuo@Law, successfully filed a certiorari application, which led to Justice Nyadu’s stunning verdict.
The judge not only quashed the Dansoman Circuit Court’s illegal actions but also slapped a permanent injunction on it, barring it from ever entertaining Moore’s frivolous charges against the investor.
But the nightmare for Moore is far from over. Toh has filed a separate, blockbuster human rights suit, gunning for a whopping $2.8 million in damages from the NDC chairman for “unlawful arrest, detention, and abuse of rights.” That case is set to blow the lid off the scandal on October 14, 2025.
According to court documents, Moore allegedly resorted to gangster-like tactics, colluding with police officers to intimidate and harass the businessman after his attempts to squeeze even more cash out of him failed.
NDC INTEGRITY AT STAKE
The explosive revelations have plunged the NDC into a full-blown crisis. Party critics are spitting fire, warning that the allegations of extortion and abuse of campaign funds could torpedo their chances in the upcoming elections.
“This is a total disgrace! He needs to resign now,” a furious grassroots organizer told The New Republic. “This isn’t about one man; it’s about protecting the NDC’s good name. Resignation is the only honorable way out.”
The storm has also resurrected an old ghost: the infamous $7 million ECG contract scandal. A previous report by the New Republic newspaper detailed how Ashie Moore allegedly demanded a fortune from Toh under the guise of facilitating multi-million-dollar ECG cable supply contracts.
Toh’s statement claims he was introduced to the NDC chairman by a Chinese associate in 2024. Moore, he says, pulled out all the stops, parading his political muscle with alleged introductions to former President John Mahama and Professor Joshua Alabi to win his trust.
Swallowing the bait, Toh claims he wired a cool $700,000, roughly 10 percent of the alleged contract’s value, directly into Moore’s personal account. An additional $100,000 was reportedly sent as “insurance” for the shadowy deal.
