The Youth Organizer for the Dormaa Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kumi Asare, has called on Ghanaians to exercise restraint as the government intensifies efforts to resolve the nation’s persistent electricity challenges.
Speaking on the GIFTS FM morning show with Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, Mr. Asare reframed the current power fluctuations as “Dum Siesie” rather than “Dumsor,” underscoring what he described as the administration’s proactive interventions to stabilize the energy sector.
He asserted that the NDC remains the only political party equipped to address Ghana’s electricity deficit, pointing to its track record in expanding power generation and extending electricity infrastructure to underserved rural communities as testament to its competence.
Mr. Asare explained that the recent extensions to the national grid have increased demand on transformers, thereby necessitating urgent maintenance and repairs on damaged units — a process he said is currently underway and contributing to the intermittent outages.
“Upon completion of the maintenance work, Ghana’s energy sector challenges will be effectively resolved,” he assured.
Echoing similar sentiments, Hon. Alan Afi Isaac, Presiding Member of the Dormaa East District Assembly, revealed that in the aftermath of the Akosombo fire incident, the Ministry of Energy has implemented decisive measures, including the suspension of the Director of GRIDco pending investigations.
He noted that these actions have already yielded tangible results, with “an uninterrupted power supply for almost five days.”
Hon. Isaac characterized the ongoing outages as a transient setback that the government is determined to rectify in order to deliver a more reliable power supply to citizens.
He added that the issue of “dumsor” is nearing resolution, with the opposition now redirecting attention to financial losses at the Bank of Ghana.
He further claimed that Ghanaians are reaping the benefits of the NDC’s “resetting agenda,” and expressed confidence that the party’s prospects for the 2028 general elections remain strong.
“Due to the commendable governance of President John Dramani Mahama, whichever candidate the NDC presents is likely to succeed in the general elections,” he declared.
