Business leaders, government officials, and international dignitaries will gather today at the Oscar Events Center in Cincinnati for the Africa-America Trade & Investment Summit. Under the theme “Building Bridges • Expanding Trade • Creating Investment Opportunities,” the event aims to strengthen economic ties between the United States and the African continent.
The full-day summit, organized in partnership with the Rotary Club and various trade organizations, features a robust agenda designed to foster dialogue on international economic development, with a specific focus on opportunities in Ghana.
Opening Ceremony and Official Welcome
The program kicks off at 9:00 AM with registration and guest arrival, followed by an official opening by Ed Mathis, President of the Rotary Club. The morning session will feature a recognition of international delegates and dignitaries, setting a tone of global cooperation.
Ronald C. Todd II of the Ohio Department of Development will deliver the Welcome Address at 9:50 AM, highlighting Ohio’s commitment to international trade. Following a special address by Manny, CEO of Natural Shea Care, the spotlight will turn to the financial sector.
Ghana EXIM Bank and Economic Development
Dr. Joseph Nyarkotei Dorh, Board Chair of the Ghana EXIM Bank, is scheduled to present at 10:25 AM. His presentation will be preceded by an introduction of the bank’s board chair, emphasizing the critical role of export-import financing in facilitating transatlantic trade.
A networking break at 10:50 AM will lead into a panel discussion on “International Trade & Economic Development.” Moderated by a representative from the Greater Cincinnati | Northern Kentucky African American Chamber of Commerce, the panel will explore the intersections of policy and private sector growth.
Keynote Address and World Affairs
The morning session will culminate with a Keynote Address by Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration) for the Republic of Ghana. Her address, scheduled for 11:35 AM, will be followed by a recognition ceremony and a networking lunch.
The afternoon session will shift focus to the energy sector with a Featured Business Address by Steve L. Hightower, President & CEO of Hightowers Petroleum Co., at 1:00 PM.
Michelle Glandorf, President & CEO of the World Affairs Council – Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky, will introduce a panel discussion on “World Affairs” at 1:40 PM, examining the broader geopolitical landscape affecting trade.
Focus on Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy
A highlight of the afternoon will be a presentation on “Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy: Investment & Export Opportunities” by Gabriel Opoku-Asare, Chief Export Development Officer for the Ghana 24-Hour Economy Authority. This segment aims to showcase specific investment prospects within Ghana’s evolving economic framework.
The summit will conclude with a presentation by Dr. Prince Ellis regarding APNET, followed by a discussion on “Cincinnati Rotary Activities in Ghana” led by Ed Mathis and Baffour. Closing remarks and acknowledgments are scheduled for 2:55 PM.
