The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the United Nations (UN) in Ghana, will join the global community to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the United Nations under the local theme “UN@80: Ghana and the UN Shared Responsibility for a Better Tomorrow.”

According to the statement, Ghana, which became the 81st member state in 1957, has been instrumental in advancing the values and principles of the UN through peacekeeping, diplomacy, and advocacy for global solidarity.
The weeklong celebration will begin with a Peace Walk on Saturday, October 18, starting from the forecourt of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) through selected principal streets of Accra.
On Tuesday, October 21, a Tree Planting Exercise dubbed “8 Trees for 8 Decades” will take place across eight strategic locations nationwide.
A High-Level Dialogue is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event will bring together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, youth leaders, civil society organizations, and private sector representatives to discuss “The Future of Multilateralism in a Changing World” and “Advancing Sustainable Development and Finance in a Fragmented Global Order.” The dialogue aims to explore strategies for fostering an inclusive and resilient global system amid economic uncertainty and shifting power dynamics.
On Thursday, October 23, a Public Lecture will be held at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD). The lecture will feature experts and thought leaders reflecting on Ghana’s enduring partnership with the UN and the significance of international cooperation in addressing emerging global issues.
The celebration will culminate on Friday, October 24 with a Flag-Raising Ceremony and Photo Exhibition at the forecourt of the State House.
