The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has today Monday November 17 lifted the suspension of it 2025/2026 recruitment screening exercise for Greater Accra Region.
The exercise will resume officially this week, on Thursday, November 20, 2025. It was halted last week Wednesday following a tragic stampede that resulted in the death of six female applicants and a couple of injuries.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations.
She explained that the screening will be conducted across eight sub-centres in five locations as part of measures to ensure an orderly process.
“All qualified applicants in batches of 600 persons will receive an SMS specifying their reporting dates, batches and designated centres,” the statement noted.
The designated screening centres are El-Wak Stadium (two centres), Nicholson Park at Burma Camp (two centres), the Air Force Base at Burma Camp, the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Teshie (two centres), and the Eastern Naval Command in Tema.
Applicants have been urged to strictly follow the instructions provided in the SMS notifications and check the recruitment portal for additional updates.
Those who do not receive a message by November 20 are advised to call the helpline or contact the WhatsApp number provided for assistance.
GAF further advised against families and friends accompanying applicants to the centres to reduce congestion, emphasizing that non-applicants will not be permitted entry.
Investigation and Compensation
Meanwhile, the Army has also confirmed that a Board of Inquiry set up to investigate the circumstances leading to the stampede at the El-Wak is in progress.
To ensure a fair and transparent investigation, the entire Greater Accra Recruitment team has been replaced.
To ensure transparency, the entire Greater Accra recruitment team has been replaced with new leadership — Commodore F.A. Nyarko, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko and Colonel G.B. Eduah — who now head Human Resources, Manpower, and Information Technology, respectively.
The GAF assured the public that anyone found culpable will be sanctioned accordingly.
It expressed deep regret over the unfortunate incident, extending its deepest sympathies to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
All injured recruits will continue to receive free medical services at the 37 Military Hospital until they recover.
A “special recruitment package” will also be offered to the injured and the affected families to appease the souls of the lost souls.
“The Ghana Armed Forces continues to count on the cooperation of the general public in this endeavour,” the statement concluded.
