A Ghanaian lady, Confi Ayram Gbevitor, has narrated her ordeal with the Nigerian Immigration at the Agbara checkpoint last week.
According to her, she was subjected to severe slaps and punches by both superior and junior officers in the attack. The incident occurred on Saturday November 15, 2025.
The distraught woman, in a social media post recounted she was travelling from Lagos to Lome when the officers pounced on her.
Traveling in a commercial vehicle, Confi said when they got to the Agbara checkpoint, and the checks were happening she was asked her nationality to which she revealed that she was a Ghanaian.
Immediately she said that, the officers asked for her passport but she indicated that she did not have and rather provided her Ghana Card. This did not satisfy the officers and so she was instructed to meet their boss where she asked was the same question and she repeated she did not have it with the exception of the Card.
The said superior then retorted “You are a Ghanaian, I hear Ghana Immigration has been embarrassing Nigerians, I will also embarrass you.”
Confi said there were many Nigerians living in Ghana. This apparently did not go down well with the officers leading to the first slap from the superior followed by multiple punches. “Before I could finish, he slapped me. The other officers then attacked me. Hitting my head from all angels”.
The attacks did not end there. The distraught Ghanaian lady said she was then ordered to sit on the bare floor and poured water. “They asked me to sit on the floor and poured water on me. They held me for 2 hours and released me after taking the only money on me, 10, 000 CFA.”
The story of Confi has been condemned by many on social media with a call on authorities especially the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to intervene to prevent future attacks.
For months, some Ghanaians have been prevailing on authorities to fish out and deport Nigerians who are illegally living in Ghana without proper documentations as it is believed they are fueling criminal activities.

On Saturday, the 15th of November, I had a disturbing encounter with Nigeria Immigration Officers while traveling from Lagos to Lome. At the Agbara checkpoint, the officers stopped our vehicle and asked us to exit. When questioned about my nationality, I stated that I am a Ghanaian and was asked to produce my passport. I informed them that I did not have it with me and provided my Ghana card instead.
The officers took the card and instructed me to meet with their superior. The superior asked for my passport, and I told him I did not have it with me. He then said, ‘You are a Ghanaian, I hear Ghana Immigration has been embarrassing Nigerians, I will also embarrass you.’ I replied, ‘Don’t say that; there are a lot of Nigerians in Ghana.’ Before I could finish, he slapped me. The other officers then attacked me, hitting my head from all angles. They asked me to sit on the floor and poured water on me. They held me for 2 hours and released me after taking the only money on me, 10,000 CFA.
I was sooo traumatized that it did not occurr to take pictures…
