The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has warned the public about the intentional spread of false information following a viral video related to an incident at the Kasoa New Market fire site.
In a statement, the Service reminded everyone that sharing false or misleading information is against Ghanaian law, urging citizens to stay calm and let the proper procedures unfold.
GNFS recognized the public’s worries about the video but emphasized that the issue is currently being investigated by the Police.
The Service asked the public to avoid making judgments based only on social media videos and to wait for the official results of the investigations.
“We understand the concerns expressed by the public regarding the circulating video. However, the issue is under Police investigation, and we encourage everyone to remain calm and await the official results,” the statement said.
Previously, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, DO II Desmond Ackah, clarified that the Service does not tolerate any form of assault or misconduct by its staff.
He further explained that the viral video did not show an assault on a journalist, but rather an incident involving a man who allegedly tried to steal at the fire scene.
Mr. Ackah emphasized that no officer of the Service endorses violence or abuse of power, stating that GNFS is dedicated to professionalism and accountability.
He mentioned that if investigations find any wrongdoing by fire personnel, appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken, with dismissal being the most severe punishment under the Service’s rules.
The Ghana National Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and cooperation with the Police as investigations into the incident at the Kasoa New Market fire scene continue.
