Broadcaster, Nana Aba Anamoah, has scored President John Mahama, high for appointing a good number of women into his government.
The outspoken journalist observes that even though the president is yet to meet his campaign promise of a minimum of 30 percent quota for women in all political appointments, he is on course and deserves encouragement.
The president stands as the first president to select a female vice president in the person Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
Speaking at the recently held Women of Valour programme at the plush Hilton Park Lane Hotel in London, in the United Kingdom (UK), founder of the annual event, said she has been impressed so far and urged the President to do more.
Using the appointment of the High Commissioner of the UK, Sabah Zita Benson, who was present at the event, Anamoah particularly expressed excitement that for the first time, a woman occupies that position 7 decades of independence.
The appointment of Zita Benson, was she noted serves as a testament to the President’s commitment to women empowerment.
“It took 68 years, so we want to thank His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for progress. I remember when he was campaigning, he said he was going to commit a certain quota, about 40% to women. And he’s on course. I mean, we haven’t reached there yet but so far, there is progress. So far, so good. Zita’s appointment is a testimony of the commitment to women. So we are very grateful for that”.
Speaking eloquently in her welcome address, the broadcaster of many years acknowledged the journey to empower and women saying she and her team do not take lightly where they have come from.
She encouraged the women to pursue fearlessness and not give up on their aspirations. She stressed that the dream to be fearless is going to be daunting but urged them to give up until their reach the top.
“Our pursuit of fearlessness, that’s our theme, isn’t a personality trait, but fearlessness as a decision. A decision we must make every day. We must pursue fearlessness every day, because we will be fearful. When you’re driving out of your home, you’re afraid that some crazy lunatic will cross your path and cause problems. You just don’t know who you’re going to meet at the front desk. So you are always afraid, but it’s a decision to pursue fearlessness every day.”
