The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has declared a nationwide demonstration to protest the limited employment opportunities facing teacher trainees and trained educators impacted by the 2022–2024 recruitment backlog.
Friday, April 24, 2026, has been earmarked for the coordinated protest, which will unfold across all Colleges of Education, culminating in a national convergence in Accra.
In an official communiqué dated Thursday, April 23, 2026, the National Secretariat stated that the mass action is a direct response to the burgeoning backlog of qualified teachers and what it deems “inadequate recruitment slots announced by authorities.”
According to TTAG, the resolution was reached after “extensive engagement and careful consideration of the concerns of our members, as well as the urgent need for a more responsive and inclusive approach to teacher recruitment.”
The Association confirmed that comprehensive security protocols have been arranged in collaboration with relevant authorities to guarantee a peaceful and orderly exercise across the country.
It further directed that all 49 Colleges of Education are to participate, charging members to execute the demonstration with _“a sense of urgency, discipline, and unity, as previously outlined.”
“This action follows extensive engagement and careful consideration of the concerns of our members, as well as the urgent need for a more responsive and inclusive approach to teacher recruitment. In this regard: Tomorrow, Friday, 24th April, 2026, has been designated for a nationwide demonstration to be held across Colleges of Education, with a national convergence in Accra.
“All necessary security arrangements have been duly coordinated with the appropriate authorities to ensure a safe and orderly exercise across all Colleges. Accordingly, all forty-nine (49) Colleges of Education are expected to proceed with this demonstration with a sense of urgency, discipline, and unity, as previously outlined,”the statement said.
