The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has affirmed that government has fully settled all outstanding payments owed to road contractors executing major infrastructure projects nationwide.
According to the Minister, every contractor who has duly submitted certified work certificates whether for ongoing or newly commenced projects under the “Big Push” initiative has received full payment.
The remarks were made during an inspection tour with President John Mahama on Thursday, April 23, along the Kasoa–Winneba Highway, where the Minister assessed construction progress, quality benchmarks, and project timelines as part of government’s broader agenda to enhance road infrastructure and national connectivity.
Agbodza reiterated that government’s road investment framework places a premium on indigenous contractors, ensuring that a substantial share of infrastructure expenditure is channeled into strengthening Ghanaian enterprises.
“As of today [Thursday, April 23], every contractor who has raised a work certificate on any Big Push project has been settled. We do not owe any contractor a pesewa,” he stated.
He underscored government’s unwavering commitment to sustaining road infrastructure development and guaranteeing prompt disbursements to contractors to forestall delays in project delivery.
He further lauded Ghanaian contractors for the exceptional quality of work delivered, noting that government retains profound confidence in their technical competence to execute major road projects.
“The performance of Ghanaian contractors has been impressive. The quality of work is good, and our belief in their ability to fix our roads remains unwavering,” he added.
