President John Dramani Mahama has visited Fuveme in the Volta Region to inspect communities affected by recent tidal waves and engage residents on both immediate relief and long-term coastal protection measures.
He noted that the area falls under the World Bank-supported West Africa Coastal Areas Management Program (WACA), a $150 million initiative aimed at addressing coastal erosion and tidal wave impacts across vulnerable communities.

The President assured residents that the project, currently at the design stage, will soon move into implementation, including the construction of sea defence systems, groynes, and ecosystem restoration measures such as coconut tree and mangrove planting.
In the interim, government is exploring immediate interventions, including dredging of the estuary to reduce pressure and mitigate further damage.

The tidal wave devastation in Fuveme and surrounding areas, has once again reignited national debate over coastal protection and disaster preparedness, with stakeholders calling for urgent and coordinated action to prevent further humanitarian crises along Ghana’s coastline.
