… Describes NPP as Ghana’s best path to prosperity
National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has announced his intention to contest for the party’s National First Vice Chairmanship, pledging to restore discipline, unity and organisational strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a declaration of intent shared on Saturday, Ahiagbah said the NPP must “reflect and move forward with renewed energy” following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
He said the party’s recovery depends on recommitting to its founding ideals of liberty, the rule of law and free market principles.
Ahiagbah argued that rebuilding the party requires disciplined leadership capable of fostering cohesion and unity.
“That is why our reorganisation must produce disciplined leaders,” he said. “Without discipline, there can be no cohesion. Without cohesion, there can be no unity and without unity, we cannot achieve the victory Ghanaians envision for us in 2028.”
He urged delegates to elect a National First Vice Chairman on September 19, 2026, who can work with the National Chairman to strengthen party structures and reconnect with the grassroots.
Outlining his priorities, Ahiagbah pledged to renew the NPP’s liberal-conservative values, strengthen party administration at all levels, promote accountability and mutual respect, and foster greater inclusion so that every member feels valued and heard.
He also said he would work to build “a united, election-ready party” capable of returning to power.
While describing the NPP as “Ghana’s best path to prosperity, strong leadership, and good governance,” Ahiagbah acknowledged that Ghanaians are looking for “new kinds of leaders” who demonstrate discipline, integrity and the ability to unite people.
“I am prepared to meet those expectations,” he said, appealing to delegates for their “vote, guidance and prayers.”
The NPP is expected to elect its national executives in September as part of its reorganisation following its defeat in the 2024 elections. The party is seeking to regain power in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
