The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has identified and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old Ivan Baidoo, following initial investigations into a viral video linked to the incident on the Tema Motorway on August 27.
Investigations Underway
Two parallel investigations have been launched into the matter. The CID Homicide Unit is probing the circumstances surrounding Baidoo’s death, while the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is examining the conduct of the interdicted officer.
The Alleged Incident
According to accounts from family members, Baidoo and a motorbike rider were allegedly chased by a police officer from the UPSA traffic light all the way to the Tema Motorway.
The officer is alleged to have kicked the pair off the bike near the highway, throwing them into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
The driver involved reportedly fled the scene without rendering aid, making the incident a fatal hit-and-run.
Who Was Ivan Baidoo?
The deceased was a Level 200 law student at Central University and served as Quaque House Prefect at Adisadel College for the 2024 Santa Claus (Santa Senior) year group.
Family Offers GH¢50,000 Reward
Prior to the officer’s interdiction, the family of the deceased announced a GH¢50,000 reward for anyone who could provide information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible for the fatal accident.
The family assured the public that all information provided would be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
