The Founder and President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has been discharged from hospital after undergoing a successful surgery in the United States as part of his treatment journey for Parkinson’s disease.

Mr Cudjoe, in an update on Friday, said he had returned to his apartment where he would spend the next two weeks recovering before proceeding to the next phase of his treatment.

“Discharged and back in my apartment. Next two weeks of healing and then the magic will happen,” he posted.

The development comes a day after the policy analyst appealed to Ghanaians and other well-wishers to pray for him ahead of the procedure at RUSH University Medical Center in Chicago.

Ahead of the surgery, Mr Cudjoe expressed confidence in the medical team attending to him and thanked individuals who supported his emergency travel arrangements and treatment process.

He disclosed in January 2026 that he had been living with Parkinson’s disease for eight years and has since used his experience to raise awareness about the neurological condition and the challenges faced by people living with it.

Mr Cudjoe has also spoken about the need to improve access to specialised neurological healthcare in Ghana, indicating that he intends to use his experience to support discussions on strengthening the sector.

He said after his recovery, he planned to host neurosurgeons and neurologists in Ghana to explore ways of improving access to specialist care, medical equipment, medicines and treatment options for neurological conditions.

He also disclosed plans for a documentary to chronicle his preparations and journey from Ghana to the United States for the surgery.

The IMANI Africa President previously acknowledged support from businessman Ibrahim Mahama and neurologists in Ghana but raised concerns about the limited number of specialists available to manage conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.

His decision to publicly disclose his diagnosis was aimed at increasing awareness of the condition and encouraging support for individuals affected by it.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement. Although there is currently no cure, symptoms can be managed through medical treatment and other interventions.
