Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has commended the United States Embassy in Accra for expediting visa processing for the mother and cousin of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, who was killed in the Bronx, New York.
In a statement, Ablakwa said the Embassy processed the visas on a same-day basis on Monday, paving the way for Doris Adu Gyamfi and her niece to travel to the US.
He also expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what he described as their special intervention in facilitating the process.
The Minister said the Government of Ghana remained in close communication with US authorities regarding the status of investigations into Javits’ death.
“We shall have no rest until justice is manifestly done,” he stated.
Mr Ablakwa reaffirmed the Foreign Ministry’s commitment, together with Ghana’s diplomatic missions, to pursuing justice for Ghanaians who suffer attacks or harm abroad.
He stressed that an attack on any Ghanaian anywhere in the world was an attack on the entire country.
The Minister also expressed sympathy for Javits’ parents and family, describing the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death as heartbreaking.
“No parent deserves to lose their 15-year-old in these heart-wrenching circumstances,” he said, adding that the family remained in the government’s thoughts and prayers.
